Yamamoto Taisen Hidasuki Kyusu - 230ml

.

Banko-yaki kyusu by master Yamamoto Taisen, decorated with Hidasuki method. A Banko red clay teapot that is really precisely crafted, has a great sieve and flows beautifully. Banko clay has the property of mitigating potential bitterness in tea, the teapot is very suitable for green Japanese teas.

Banko-yaki (Banko ware) has a history of about 300 years. The first Banko ware dates back to 1736-1740, the Edo period, when a merchant named Nunami Rozan was intrigued by the Way of Tea, built a kiln in the city of Asahi in Mie Prefecture, and began making his own pottery. What once began as a hobby for the merchant turned into a world-famous pottery that was recognised as a 'traditional craft' by the Japanese Ministry of Economic Affairs. Today, there are more than 100 Banko-yaki kilns clustered around the cities of Yokkaichi and Komono in Mie Prefecture.
